Career Lessons from the British Tour de France winner

The first ever British winner of the Tour de France, Bradley Wiggins CBE came from humble beginnings. In 2006, he finished 123rd in the same competition, in 2011 he crashed out with a broken collarbone, but the next year he won the 109 year old competition.

There is a lot more to his success than just strong legs, however. Team Sky worked with precision, with every rider supporting Wiggins. The team’s sport scientist, Tim Kerrison worked with the group of cyclists and tackled the challenges of heat, altitude and mountain ascents. British Sky Broadcasting funded the team, allowing Team Sky to buy Wiggins out of his Garmin team contract and enable a new international to assemble.

Team effort in both the sporting and the corporate worlds is vital for success. Without a strong and carefully placed collective of professionals, a project, business or strategy runs risk of failure. Having a focused group with a resilient support structure will give you an advantage over your competition.

Here at Puregenie Digital Recruitment, we are always looking for talented, eager and supportive candidates to work with some of the most iconic brands, including TripAdvisor, Expedia and Virgin Holidays.
