Have you been affected by the recent Panda update?

Within SEO circles talk of the recent update to its algorithm by Google called Panda has been a hot topic of discussion. I am a firm believer that if you adopt sound white hat SEO techniques then you shouldn’t be too worried that Google is finally cracking down on link farms and websites with content being produced with the sole aim of trying to trick Google. Google isn’t stupid and neither are humans (well at least not the vast majority of us!), so always create a website with relevant content for it’s readers, that changes and entices them to come back – AKA ‘sticky content’. It’s a win-win no brainer (excuse all the puns!).

With the realms of online travel and the competitiveness of the sector, I can appreciate why some companies SEO strategies would take on board less than white hat techniques and possible a few black hat ones! The previous events of BMW and also J C Penny brands demonstrated that Google takes no prisoners. Worried? Well don’t be just carry on doing all the good things you’ve done before – oh and make sure you have customer reviews integrated if you don’t already and social media bookmarking. These are things that Google is starting to take notice of more and should as it truly reflects what we all like on the web and at the end of the day it’s their job to provide this relevant content to use when we use their search engine.

I recently read this article on tnooz.com (talking travel technology) website about the possible effects of the recent Panda update and it has some good tips for ethical link building.

If you’d like to know more about the Panda update and other Search Engine news then I would highly recommend you sign up to Search Engine Watch and Search Engine Land. It’s also worth signing up to Matt Cutt’s blog and twitter.com/#!/mattcutts as he’s one of the chief engineers at Google and a front facing man for the company.
