What on Earth is ‘Pinterest’ and Can It Help Me Get a Job?
I’ve finally received the Puregenie Pinterest invitation, though it only took a few days to appear in my inbox, I am relieved.
Although it’s hard to get people interested in a site that isn’t as widely known as Facebook or LinkedIn, it is gaining popularity at a notable rate. In fact, its rapid growth is so note-worthy, that I’m writing a blog for the Puregenie Digital Recruitment page.
Pinterest is another social networking site, where people can share content, leave comments or just endlessly browse. According to Mashable, the technology and social media news site, “Its recent explosion in popularity has helped this site expand beyond cute baby/dog/porcupine photos and wedding event planning tips, which are still plentiful. Now with something in the neighbourhood of 6 million users, you’re a fish in a pretty big pond.”
To join the site, all you need is an invitation either from an existing user or by signing up on the front page. Once you’re in you can begin by creating your ‘boards’ or subheadings for the interesting things you’ll be sharing with the World.
If you are making your Pinterest page somewhere that recruiters and potential employers find you, it would be best to ensure nothing you put up can compromise your professional image.
As far as online job hunting goes, apart from a link to your resume, try adding articles you’ve written and visual examples of your work. If you’re a Photographer, put your portfolio. If you’re looking for a Travel position, write articles and show photographs of where you’ve been and what you know. Or if you’re a Digital Marketing, SEO Manager, PR or Social Media Guru, then ‘pin’ some graphs of your successful campaigns and any eye-catching image that will support your cause.
