What’s Happened To Google Plus and What Is Zoogle?

When the rumours and eventual big news of Google+ started back in June 2011, the invitation-only extension of the World’s biggest search engine had an overwhelming influx of new applications, even more so when it was opened to general release in September last year.

Apart from the on-site instant messenger, ‘Sparks’(news feed of selected interests) and games, one of the main attractions is Circles. Also adopted by Facebook, Circles are a way to segregate your contacts and define who sees what of your profile and news.

Another useful feature, that was previously only available to premium Skype members, is the video conference call or ‘Hang-Out’. You can now have face-to-faces conversation with anyone in your circles, which can be a very useful tool for both business and personal users.

Originally labelled by some as a potential ‘Facebook Killer’, the rapid growth added strength to these rumours, although this quickly fell by the wayside when people realised that, although a survey taken in August 2011 estimated that 13% of U.S. adults have joined Google+, hardly any of their Facebook friends were on it.

It has, however proved a useful tool for another way for businesses to connect with their customers. In addition, it is another great way to have people recommend your company by ‘+1ing’ your website, which in a Google search, the +1s made by your contacts will have their faces next to it.

Although Puregenie Digital Recruitment and Gail Kenny Recruitment have only recently launched the Google Plus pages, we have found it a valuable resource for spreading the word of our range of available and upcoming digital marketing, SEO and brand management positions and would love to add you to our ‘People to Watch’ circle.

This week, Google+ and twitter feeds have been busy with the term #Zoogle2012, though finding a clear explanation is a tough task. After some tweeting and investigations via our Google+ page (yes we use it!), ZenithOptimedia, a media planning and buying agency are having a week of events in conjunction with Google, (thus making ‘Zoogle’) highlighting the relationship between the companies. Some of the seminars at the swanky Google offices, are focusing on getting your website mobile and tablet-compatible.

The Puregenie Digital Recruitment  and Gail Kenny Recruitment websites are both fully mobile-compatible. For more news, blog articles and group discussions join our ‘People To Watch’ circle on Google+, Puregenie or Gail Kenny Recruitment on Twitter, LinkedIn and don’t forget to ‘like’ our Facebook page for more content, as well as online, new media and digital career opportunities.
